I paint to explore personality and its effect on the commonplace. I present my subjects in ordinary poses or in the midst of changing expressions – these candid moments are the downbeats that define us and make us human. Painting allows me to examine them and bring them to life.
My work illuminates the mundane by exaggerating the awkward, calm, or introspective. By reconstructing and preserving an otherwise overlooked or forgotten moment, my painting process becomes an exploration of the ‘personality’ of that moment; and encourages the viewer to reconsider and reevaluate the ordinary interludes that make everyday life extraordinary.
